About GiveSunshine.Org

I became aware of the importance of bone marrow donation when my
dad was diagnosed with a blood disorder called myelodysplasia (MDS).
The only cure for this disease is a transplant.  My dad was fortunate
because, his oldest sister was a perfect match.  There is only a 25%
chance that a sibling will be a match and other than siblings, the odds of
finding a match are much less likely (about 1 in 20,000).  My dad was in
the hospital for four weeks and underwent both chemotherapy in
addition to the actual transplant. My family is very blessed because my
dad is now very healthy.

I have witnessed recipients meeting their donors for the first time at
City of Hope’s BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) Celebration for three
years in a row now. This has been an incredible experience and
reinforced the importance of bone marrow donation.

Unfortunately, we have also met people who are unsuccessful in finding
a donor. This is very sad since all of these people require a match in
order to cure their disease.  I hope that my effort will help find new
donors who will ultimately be a match for someone in need.

Get Involved

I knew I couldn't reach all my goals for registration on my own, so I
created GiveSunshine.Org, so that you can help, too. You can also raise
awareness in your community. We would be happy to help coordinate a
drive, send literature, or talk to you about registering donors. If you are
interested in helping in any of these ways or want to talk about other
possibilities, you can send an email to info@givesunshine.org. To learn
